The Waitaki Boys' High School Foundation

Waitaki Boys' High School Foundation was established in 1991 to bring together Old Boys and Friends of the School to work for the advancement of the School.

The Foundation was initiated by the School itself, its Board of Trustees, Rector, and Staff and has been financially supported by each in its establishment. It is strongly supported by the Old Boys' Association the School's Community Association, and the Boarders Parents Committee, who were all involved in planning for its establishment.

The Foundation is designed to generate funds to meet the immediate and longer-term special needs of Waitaki in a competitive School environment, and to capitalise on the opportunities that this has provided for the School.

The Foundation is a Charitable Trust set up as a perpetual endowment fund, with tax exempt status for all income. Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible as permitted by New Zealand Inland Revenue rules from time to time.

The capital of the Foundation is invested with ongoing professional advice to achieve a good balance between income and capital growth and one half of the income in each year must generally be reinvested to ensure the capital growth of the fund is maintained in perpetuity. The balance of income is donated to the School for use in areas where financial help best assists the School's progress.

OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION

The Foundation is assisting the School in a significant way to achieve financial independence and security and with those advantages, to proceed with ongoing and substantial improvements to the school. The Foundation provides supplementary funding to achieve these broad objectives.

The current New Zealand educational environment is one of competition, local autonomy, and greater choice. This has provided the opportunity for Waitaki to reclaim its independence and its heritage. The Foundation has been a bold approach to achieving greater freedoms and opportunities for Waitaki.
